Online-Service mit Zugang zu den laut Urteil von über 2.500 renommierten Experten ihres Fachgebietes wichtigsten und interessantesten medizinischen Zeitschriftenartikeln. Die Fachwissenschaftler wählen regelmäßig kürzlich erschienene Publikationen aus, kommentieren und bewerten sie. Diese Bewertungen werden unter Berücksichtigung der Häufigkeit, mit der ein bestimmter Beitrag genannt wird, zum sog. "F1000 Faktor" verrechnet und als "Exceptional", "Must Read" oder "Recommended" eingestuft. Damit liegt ein Instrument zur Forschungsevaluation vor, das durch einen "Post-Publication Peer Review"-Prozess zustande kommt und den Anspruch hat, die Qualität einzelner Artikel unabhängig vom Renommee der jeweiligen Zeitschrift zu bewerten. So erhalten auch Arbeiten, die nicht in Kernzeitschriften veröffentlicht wurden, die Chance beachtet zu werden. In der Datenbank kann auf alle oder eines der 18 Fachgebiete bezogen gesucht werden, u. a. stehen Kategorien wie "New Finding", "Controversial" oder "Tech Advances" zur Verfügung. |
