The Brill Journal Archives Online offer access to over 4,300 volumes of nearly 200 scholarly journals. The Journal Archives consist of two parts, the first covering the 19th and 20th century and the second part the first decade of the 21st century. The Archives hold the imprints Brill and Martinus Nijhoff.

The academic community considers The Brill Journal Archives Online an invaluable resource for f inding valuable content and acquiring an historical perspective on the humanities, social sciences, international law & human rights, and biology & science. Additionally, a purchase of the archives enables libraries to save shelf space and to provide their users with the online archives of journals currently not subscribed to.

Brill Journal Archives Online Part I: Archives from the 19th and 20th Century

Part I of the Journal Archives comprises content of 2,941 volumes of 115 journals published before 2000. The archival content generally starts with volume 1 issue 1 and goes up to the last issue published in 1999. It includes journals which were previously published under different names and/or by another publisher. The Archive is still growing as more journals are added to the Brill publication list. Recently some extra 5% of content was added to this Archive.

Brill Journal Archives Online Part II: Archives from the 21st Century

Part II covers 1,403 volumes of 191 journals that were published in the 10-year period 2000-2009. Recently some extra 3% of content was added to this Archive.

Features

The Brill Journal Archives Online are hosted on booksandjournals.brillonline.com and offer all the features our users have grown accustomed to: full text search, extensive linking and other navigation tools, full text PDF downloads, reference exports, sharing, and saving and printing facilities. Brill is a CROSSREF member and ATHENS, SHIBBOLETH, and COUNTER compliant. Brill has long-term preservation agreementst with the Royal Dutch Library (KB), Portico (USA), and CLOCKSS.

Archival Access Rights Included in Current Subscriptions

Libraries have automatic access to the archival content of all journals currently subscribed to, and will continue to have access to archival content for as long as subscriptions are maintained.

Should a library decide to discontinue its subscription to a Brill journal, access to the archival content of that particular journal will be disabled. However, in line with Brill's archival policy, access to all subscribed volumes purchased since 2000 continues after cancellation.

Purchase Options

Although access to the Journal Archive of individual journals is included in a journal's current subscription, institutional customers may wish to consider purchasing the whole collection or subject-specif ic collections. The purchase option guarantees perpetual access to all the content in The Brill Journal Archives Online

The Archives may be purchased as a total, in Parts or by subject-specific collections.
