Janet Todd is the Francis Hutcheson Professor of English Literature, University of Glasgow, and the author of many books, including The Secret Life of Aphra Behn (1996) and Mary Wollstonecraft: A Revolutionary Life (2000).

Marilyn Butler is Rector of Exeter College, Oxford and author of Maria Edgeworth a Literary Biography (1972), Romantics, Rebels and Reactionaries (1981) and editor of Burke, Paine and Godwin and the Revolution Controversy (1984).
