Included Content

Each year's title list is similar to an approval plan profile: institutions decide annually to purchase access to all available new Duke University Press e-books based on the Press's well-established track record as a leading publisher of cutting-edge scholarship in the humanities and social sciences.

Key Subject Areas

  • Anthropology
  • Art history & theory
  • Asian studies
  • Cultural studies
  • Ethnic studies
  • Film & television
  • Gender & sexuality studies
  • Latin American studies
  • Political theory
  • Science studies

e-Book Subject Collections

Duke University Press offers libraries 6 e-book collections in the following subject areas:

  • African American, African, and Black Diaspora Studies
  • Anthropology
  • Art and Art History
  • Asian Studies
  • Environmental Humanities
  • Gender Studies
  • Latin American Studies
  • Music and Sound Studies
  • Religious Studies

The collections are available through purchase (all collections) or annual lease (only Gender Studies and Latin American Studies).

Pick-and-Choose e-Books

This model allows institutional customers to purchase e-books title by title with volume discounts available beginning at 25 books. Institutions can choose titles from across our list of e-book content in the humanities and social sciences.

Please note this model does not replace our existing e-Duke Books and subject collection models, which offer higher per-title discounts.

This model was designed for institutions seeking the ability to curate their e-book purchases. Duke University Press e-books include titles that are foundational in their disciplines as well as important new scholarship in cutting-edge fields. Subjects where we are particularly strong include anthropology, gender studies, cultural studies, Latin American studies, and critical ethnic studies.

Product Features

  • Volume-based discounting
  • Perpetual access to purchased content
  • COUNTER-compliant usage statistics
  • No ongoing maintenance fees
  • MARC records created by catalogers at Duke University Libraries included at no additional charge. (Libraries may extract select MARC records; we do not provide custom MARC packages at this time.)
  • Unlimited multiuser access
  • DRM-free: users can print, read online, or download PDFs by chapter
  • Trial access available
