Verlagsinformation :: Publisher's information Brill's Chinese Reference Shelf, our now fast growing online service offering reliable lexical and encyclopedic information for beginners and advanced readers of classical Chinese texts. The first shelf, occupied by Le Grand Ricci online, providing easy and fast access all through this massive 7,000-pages dictionary, covering three millennia of Chinese, explained in French. The second shelf, China Encyclopedic Reference Online, will offer online access to Brill's widely acclaimed reference works with encyclopedic resources on classical China. The third shelf, A Student's Dictionary of Classical and Medieval Chinese Online, compiled by Paul W. Kroll, is the Chinese-English resource of choice for all those reading Chinese texts from the period of approx. 500 BCE to 1000 CE. The fourth shelf, The Ricci Dictionary of Chinese Law Online, will offer online access to The Ricci Dictionary of Chinese Law (Chinese-English, French). Developed by the Ricci Association since 2006, is the very first trilingual dictionary on Chinese law.
The fifth shelf, A Biographical Dictionary of the Qin and Han (221 BC - 220 AD), includes 14,000 entries about the men and women living under China’s formative first empires, providing biographical information on the influential figures who set the literary forms and intellectual background of traditional China, and those who ruled and administered the empire. Formerly published as two separate volumes (Biographical Dictionary of the Qin, Former Han and Xin Periods by Michael Loewe, Biographical Dictionary of Later Han to the Three Kingdoms by Rafe de Crespigny), this publication is an indispensable online tool that provides insight into the dynasties of the Qin, Former Han and Xin Periods, and the comparatively neglected periods from the Later Han to the end of the dynasty. It also provides convenient search and browsing functions, such as the ability to search not only Chinese characters but also to do searches by radicals and strokes in addition to Pinyin.
The sixth shelf, Ancient and Early Medieval Chinese Literature Online: A Research Guide, is the long-awaited, first Western-language reference guide focusing exclusively on Chinese literature from ca. 700 B.C.E. to the early seventh century C.E. Alphabetically organized, it contains no less than 1095 entries on major and minor writers, literary forms and "schools," and important Chinese literary terms. In addition to providing authoritative information about each subject, the compilers have taken meticulous care to include detailed, up-to-date bibliographies and source information. The reader will find it a treasure-trove of historical accounts, especially when browsing through the biographies of authors. |
