Inhalt :: Content

Verlagsinformation :: Publisher's information

Oxford Intersections is a new concept in interdisciplinary academic publishing from Oxford University Press (OUP).

Our cohort of academics and global experts are investigating the most urgent and challenging subjects of the day, such as AI in Society, Racism by Context, and Social Media in Society and Culture, in depth.

Moving away from linear, long-form research, we are approaching societal issues from a different angle. We will explore these challenges from a multi-faceted perspective — an array of angles from leading authorities, that emerge into new insights. This diverse community of voices fosters unexpected connections that transcend disciplinary boundaries.

The inclusive, interdisciplinary approach of Oxford Intersections gives us a more rounded perspective. Ideas clash, complement, and counterpoint, prompting new viewpoints and possibilities. We will keep pace with the world’s rapid speed of change through research that anticipates shifts and developments. Deftly curated and edited, each topic will build and evolve over three years.

An original body of research that stays vital, relevant and accessible. Oxford Intersections is being created by many and will be inspiring to all.

Global research without borders

Oxford Intersections is an online-only product that provides access to large, interdisciplinary works, with each focused on a complex, global topic. On completion, each topic will contain around 300 peer-reviewed original research articles, all helpfully organised into themed sections.

The below topics are in development, with over 30 more to follow in the coming years:

  • AI in Society
  • Borders
  • Climate Adaptation
  • Cultures of Waste
  • Environmental Change and Human Experience
  • Gender Justice
  • Racism by Context
  • Social Media in Society and Culture

The research is peer-reviewed, developed, and honed through feedback from external scholars. This ensures that the quality of the research is up to the highest possible standards.

Be part of something bigger

Every topic is overseen by a General Editor and several Section Editors, who mobilise their diverse community of authors from across disciplines, approaches, regions of the world, and life experiences, to work together to create a cohesive but ambitious interdisciplinary work.

Employing some of the most important qualities of an academic book – strong curation, carefully commissioned contributions, and an editorial point of view arching across a collection – Oxford Intersections provides a platform for innovative, kaleidoscopic lenses. This is research that enriches the impact of its studies and integrates methodologies – research that connects to scholarship across fields, crossing disciplinary boundaries.

Oxford Intersections is the ideal publishing venue for core original research, bridging the gap between books and journals publishing.

There’s never just one answer

At OUP, we are committed to supporting the SHAPE initiative – the new collective name for the social sciences, humanities, and arts.

We recognize the value of these subject areas and the contributions they make to understanding the world we live in and the development of solutions to global issues. This means that every topic in Oxford Intersections will be centred within the humanities and social science disciplines.

New perspectives, new possibilities

Oxford Intersections is available on Oxford Academic, joining our family of major, large-scale research products, helping facilitate your research process. Each topic will provide the energy and currency of original research alongside the user-friendly organization and navigational scaffolding of a database. They will introduce you to how research is approached, and how new ideas are formed from many different disciplines.

Then you can continue into in-depth, focused pieces of original scholarship within our journals and the monographs in Oxford Scholarship Online.

Accessed through institutions

Each topic in Oxford Intersections will be available for libraries to purchase, with the option to pay for access over its 3-year development.
