Verlagsinformation :: Publisher's information Oxford University Voltaire (OV) is a new digital scholarly edition, designed to have the same authoritative status as the very best print editions. Not only does it recreate in digital format the 205-volume Complete Works of Voltaire / OEuvres complètes de Voltaire (Oxford, Voltaire Foundation, 19672022), it breaks new ground, defining and shaping its field just as the print edition did. As an updatable and enrichable resource, this initiative marks a revolution in how we design and use digital editions, allowing scholars to exploit the possibilities of the digital medium as a research tool. We are proud that OV has already been recognised as a British Academy Research Project. Voltaire wrote in every known genre, verse, theatre, history, scientific writings, fiction, philosophy, biblical criticism, pamphlets and journalism… In his 15,000 letters, he assembled a vast pan-European network encompassing figures from every level of society. We even have his working notebooks, along with the 7000 volumes of his personal library, half of which contain his commentary in the margins. In its volume, diversity and complexity, Voltaire's work allows us to construct a corpus of unparalleled value for research into the Enlightenment.
