Umfassende Sammlung digitalisierter Publikationen, die in Nordamerika von 1639 bis 1800 erschienen sind. Sie bildet eine wichtige Quellenbasis für alle Aspekte der Forschung zur amerikanischen Kultur der Frühneuzeit (Geschichte, Literatur, Philosophie, Theologie u.a.). Nach Abschluss der Digitalisierung wird die Sammlung über 36.000 Titel und mehr als 2,4 Millionen Seiten umfassen. Die Sammlung basiert auf der einschlägigen Bibliographie von Charles Evans (American Bibliography, Bde. 1-16, 1903-1967) und der Mikrofilmausgabe des Verlags. |

"Early American Imprints, Series I. Evans" has been hailed as one of the most important collections ever produced on microform. Based on the renowned "American Bibliography" by Charles Evans, the collection was first published by Readex in cooperation with the American Antiquarian Society. For decades, the collection has served as the definitive resource for information about every aspect of life in 17th- and 18th-century America, from agriculture and auctions through foreign affairs, diplomacy, literature, music, religion, the Revolutionary War, slavery, temperance, witchcraft, and just about any other topic imaginable. Continuing their long-term relationship, Readex and the American Antiquarian Society are now undertaking a massive project to digitize the entire Evans collection. This unique, Internet-based resource consists of: All Readex Digital Collections use a common interface designed for researchers with a variety of skills. Evans Digital incorporates a browse feature that makes it easy to see what's in the collection by author, genre, subject, history of printing, language and more. At any point within browse, it is possible to begin a simple or advanced search. Searchable OCR-generated ASCII text is also associated with each image. Researchers using the institution's Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) may link directly to the document of interest in Evans Digital provided expanded catalog records, an option created by the American Antiquarian Society, are acquired. The University of Michigan, in cooperation with NewsBank/Readex and the American Antiquarian Society, is creating accurately keyboarded and SGML/XML encoded text editions for up to 6,000 imprints from Evans Digital. This option known as Evans-Text Creation Partnership (Evans-TCP) will provide for legible and searchable encoded texts with links to corresponding page images within Evans Digital. |
